Dusk (click on image to enlarge)
Well, it is done I hauled the pieces to the Village Gallery this morning. We were to have 10 to 12 each so I took 14 pieces to let them decide which ones they wanted, and they ended up using all 14 of them. They both had some wonderful work, so I think it will be a very nice show. We also made the final plans for wine, food, etc for Thursday night.
This is one of the pieces in it entitled Dusk. I don’t think I posted it on here before. It is on my web site, but I worked on it some more so I need to put the new digital image on there too. Anyway, I wasn’t sure they would want this piece because it is one of my “memory landscapes”…but it is hanging in a nice place right when you walk in the door.
I will try to post more later. I am having trouble with AOL for some reason.
until later then…

I am enjoying this. Different. Stark and with strong visual impact. I hope it sells. Good work.
Thank you for “visiting” my blog and for your kind comments. I seem to be moving in the direction of stronger colors….we will see.
I love this, Suz,
I’m not really an Italy person, but this feels like quintessential Italy and I could get into this landscape.
As you’ll have noticed, I’m all for simplicity – though I have to say some of my ethnic textiles are anything but… Anyhow, this feels to me like a strong, clear statement. I think it deserves to sell!
take care
The Sculptor
My trees were red with fire and only then
did dusk reveal the moulding I had done,
and taught me that I could not bear to leave
annihilating rage to murder making.
Like Sisyphus I say that I will roll again
the boulder to the summit of the hill.
Please, if I falter, will you bring me water?
(As you see, I had a light-bulb moment. If I still like it in a few days, can I post it, together with the picture, on my blog?)
regards as ever

Thank you for dropping by and for your gracious comments. This piece is simple..maybe because it is what I call one of my “memory or inner landscapes”..memories of a time and place, but more about the energy there and how it made me feel. I may have prints made from this piece.
You are welcome to post the poem with the image. I find it a powerful poem
I will visit your blog right now. I am still curious about my questions for you from before.
Thanks Suz
I think I’ve been remiss – Can you remind me where to find the questions I haven’t answered? – and I’ll make it a priority to do so!
Something feels too raw about the poem – or it’s me. Anyhow, I’ll let it simmer for a while before I post it, probably with (I feel) some changes.
Hi Suz,
thanks for refreshing your queries. I’ve got ‘stuff’ on right now, but I did take a quick peak at the poem – and you’re right – dark, which I wanted to lighten a bit. I was right too – this one is going to take time and effort to knock into shape. Here’s the new fast draft; I’ll setttle down to try and respond to your queries in a couple of days when the dust settles a bit.
The Sculptor
My trees were red with fire and only then
as dusk revealed my moulding of the clay,
I learnt at last – I could not bear to leave
annihilating rage to murder making.
Like Sisyphus I vow that I will roll again
the boulder to the summit of the hill -
only be kind enough
to bring me water.
I vow
lovers will walk the twilit fields in peace;
my trees
stand sharp against the fires of the west
and Earth will rest
when I have reached the summit of the hill.
And we will rest.
