Light within shadows ©Susan Morrison Sims
8″ x 10″ acrylic/canvas (click on image to enlarge, twice to step within :)
For several days now i have just stared at this screen unable to write anything. i have posted this painting before in the little painting series. Now i find myself posting it again…you know how i always talk about stepping into a painting…well i am in this painting right now. When you enlarge it maybe you will understand. i am not in a bad place, just a blue place that i dwell from time to time…seeking light within shadows…my own shadows.
Is it a restlessness of heart? Maybe.
Restlessness of heart has always been good for me for it means change is stirring. Remember i am always saying change is good! :)
So why am i on here now?
Well, i was tagged the other day…and maybe it was perfect timing since i am struggling with the words in my heart right now. So i hope you understand why my post today is about this fun little MeMe.
i have not been blogging very long, but i have been tagged a few times and i usually beg off. Not because i dislike the subjects…. it is mainly the time thing. Do not forget i am still that Capricorn..battling imperfect perfectionism. i know myself too well..i will do it-then redo it-to redo it again! i have often wondered what happens when you publish your post and then change it not once..not twice..but many times. :O Can anyone tell me? i have redone this one about ten times already.
Anyway, Surfaceearth tagged me for this little Meme on books.
Note: Please see Surfaceearth in the blogroll. Being the technical dummy that i am i do not know how to link it here. If anyone can explain it simply i will most certainly try (not promising anything though).
Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.
Here is my response, but i am breaking the rules in a couple of ways (you know i am rebellious).
1. The book is Buddha’s Little Instruction Book by Jack Kornfield.
2. i opened it to page 123 and there is only one sentence:
If you wish to know the divine, feel the wind on your face and the warm sun on your hand.
So 3 and 4 do not apply.
5. i am breaking the rules again…i am not going to tag anyone because i read Surfaceearth’s comments and some that were not tagged liked this and did it. So i am leaving this open to everyone. It only takes a few minutes, and i think it spreads a good thing…wonderful little messages or jewels that may lead us to seek out a new book!
So i sort of did the Meme…it is up to you if you want to do it and how you do it.
Note: concerning the book i am reading. Though, i am not a member of any “religion” including Buddhism i am open to all messages of light. i probably have a 1000 books or more in my personal library. i have read this little book many times, and i am quite sure i will read it again. i keep all of my books, even if i do not feel a powerful connection, just in case someone visiting me does. You never know from where messages can come…right? i have found some of my most profound messages on scrap pieces of paper…many years ago i found such a message in a small dingy laundry mat.
So i ask forgiveness from anyone that has tagged me and i declined…please know it is not anything personal.
~May we not only “know the Divine” in the wind. and the sun,
but in all faces…even if they themselves are unaware.
Wishing love, light, and laughter to all of YOU.
Look for me in the face of a flower,

Came for a visit by way of Surface earth, Love the line! We all like to ” Line outside the color”, so a big smile for the rule stretch!
Namaste
Early Evening Gypsy-Heart!
This is sooo funny, because a wonderful blogger buddy of mine, got this SAME meme this week!
What BEAUTIFUL words to open up too. It was short and brief, yet SOO inspiring. I love it!
Hey listen, I VERY often rewrite my posts. I’ve even rewritten them after they’ve been up for awhile. I do this because sometimes I will notice a clearer way that I could have expressed something. And for those visitors who find the post later…they will end up reading it!
I too enjoy reading different spiritual philosophies. And you’re so right…you never know WHERE the message can come from!
I hope you’re enjoying your Saturday. The weather here today is SUPER! Sunny, clear, crisp and only in the low 50’s (unsual for this time of the year). I’ve been outside all day, walking and exploring the city…it’s been fun!
Have a great rest of the weekend, Gypsy-Heart!
Sending you energy……
Evening Gypsy Lady-
First of all, I love the painting. Though the color may be blue it doesn’t make me feel blue at all. It actually makes me feel calm and serene as most things of the night do with this feathery man. I guess I must be a little weird.
I love the book selection for your tag. As you do, I find it difficult to part with any of my books. Some I revisit periodically or years will go by and then ‘poof’ I find some little gem I never paid too much attention too earlier.
It’s all good.
Take care!
Beautiful quote. And beautiful painting. As for keeping books….I know exactly how you feel.
Gypsy,
Thanks for coming to my place1 I would be thrilled to be in your bogroll! And i have added you to mine! ( :) )
Many blessing to you!
**Sorrow**
so glad you did..we seem to keep crossing paths. I always enjoy reading your comments they are always insightful and inspiring.
Yes, outside the lines..that is my cup of tea!*
Namaste’ to you too.
**Ron**
Thank you love…i just wish i could make you laugh more.
So i am not the only one that changes posts..thank god i was getting worried about myself…thinking i was compulsive or something. :O i have changed some from way back..catching mistakes or due to “what in the hell was i thinking..or not thinking”
so glad your weather is good it is glorious here too!
enjoy the rest of your weekend!
**Hawk**
My free spirited friend…somehow i think we dwell in the same places. i find this piece calming too…though some find it depressing or scary. However one sees it is fine with me…each to his own.
As for the books…same for me. At times something that was unclear to me in the past seems crystal clear now…it just wasn’t time for me to understand it then.
Yes, all is good! Do take care too.
i thank you for stopping by and leaving a note.
**April**So happy that you like the quote and the piece.
i am not surprised that you feel the same way about books..your site reflects it!
**Sorrow**I enjoyed your site very much and will be stopping in now for you are only a click away! :)
Blessings to you too!
That painting does something wonderful wonderful for me. And I love it that you’re a book keeper! What a calming post this was.
Gypsy! I love the selection. I will carry the words with me as I observe what I think I see in the world.
**moonbeam**
Ah…that makes me happy. Yes books..i so love them! The first time i stepped in a library i knew that was my scared temple. :)
**surfaceearth**
so glad that you felt a connection. i keep returning to this little book for it seems to always have a needed message. :)
Hi, don’t worry about changing re-changing posts – I usually can’t see what I need to change (want to change) until after I hit post. Your blog is YOU, do it for YOU and we all will see the light that is YOURS. If you’re worrying about a post, then you’re likely not thinking from your true heart. Give yourself the right to change/alter/edit for YOU not your readers. And we will usually love it all the more. Funny how that happens, yes? I like the energy that your blog gives out… Thank you for visiting me and giving me some of that energy! :) -”C”
Did you break your shift key?
That lighted area looks like a little nest to keep you warm and safe.
Love the painting as always. I’m afraid you might start to find me boring, because I always say that!
Anyway, I guess one can tell you’re a capricorn from your works: they certainly are the work of a person battling imperfect perfectionism, with a tendency to feelings of nostalgia and sad thoughts, but who’s also capable of seeing the light within shadows.
This was a fun meme. I agree, there is much to learn and many avenues to learn from. I too do not subscribe to any one religion, however I do find much wisdom in books of many faiths. THanks for sharing. Your light shines brightly.
**C**
Good advice and I will try to remind myself of that. It is my “self” that struggles with the imperfections. :O I get technically frustrated too.
I agree it is always better to be yourself!
I am so pleased that you like the energy here. I think the exchange is mutual though so I thank you too!
**wr**
You are right..’tis the reason for the lighted area. I have always managed to find that place no matter how dark! :)
So glad you forgave me for taking Lisa’s side..hee, hee.
**Indigo**
My new Capricorn friend!
I just hope I am not boring you! Your kind words are never boring to me. :)
Yes..always and forever seeking the light within the shadows!
RE: PAGE 123 – The three sentences after the 5th sentence on the page:
“When you recognize the true value of others, you are a loyal servant of WISDOM. A hard worker, you are pragmatic, realistic, and loyal. Work proceeds steadily only by daily application.” — The Davinci Enigma (Chapter: The message bearer of earth).
:) That’s what it said.
I don’t think there’s any problem with revising posts, I do it all the time. Usually just to fix some mistake I missed but sometimes to add an update. No bloggy troll has come along and gobbled me up, so I think I”m good. lol
As for adding the link, I know how in blogger but not wordpress. But I believe it is easier to do than in blogger. sorry I can’t be more helpful.
I love what you wrote in the orange!! How true!
Christy
Gypsy I do so feel you are a kindred spirit. I read and nod my head, agreeing with your words. I’m in that picture more often than not.
And it is very serendipitous that I find the title of your blog today. I’ve just started a Shadow ‘Zine for a group I belong to, and am thinking of making a couple of extra copies. A whole little ‘zine with shadows and dark and mystery of life stuff, probably some amateur poetry too :-). Would you like a copy?
**Sibyllae**
Thanks for sharing your book. This looks like a good one for our libraries!
**risingrainbow**
Thank you for the input..I tend to agree. :) I still wonder if it is published once and redo it if it is published over again. Somehow I think it is. Thanks again.
**babysoup**
I am glad you feel that way! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a note. :)
**barbara**
I agree I think we are too..I knew that from your photos!
I most certainly would like a copy and I thank you for thinking of me! :)
Moody blues. I like it. X But then I am a capricorn..:)
<>**mermaid**
Moody blues…that fits it. :)
I forgot that you are a capricorn too!
