Pink Petals (oil / canvas)
”The rose saith in the dewy morn,
I am most fair…..
Yet all my loveliness is born
Upon a thorn.”
~Christina Georgina Rossetti
For some reason, I really identify with this quote….
~especially the thorn part!! hee, hee
I hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend. I may be back in a bit to chat, just a little, about this painting and the quote. I also have some things to tell you. :)
Love and light to all,
~gypsy-he♥rt
Post Note: I am not going to write much more. It is like spring here…things blooming and sprouting everywhere. That is why I posted the rose painting…some of my roses are blooming!! I know some of you are still frozen in, so I wanted to send you some canvas roses…before you know it yours will be blooming too!
I have been working on some business things. :O Due to some of your wonderful comments and emails I have been working on a way for me to offer my work on here …especially prints. Galleries can’t come on my blog and handle such things. :( That is the door I was facing…I do not like the business side of this!!! Since I’ve had so many asking I knew it was time. I wanted to offer excellent quality prints at reasonable prices, and it looks like it is all coming together!! So I will be telling you more about it very soon.
Well, I need to do some little touching up on the three pieces that were juried in the show in Soho, NY next month. I can’t remember if I told you about that or not. I will have to go back and see what I wrote (isn’t that pathetic).
I am getting ready to start painting a lot again…something about the warm weather I think.
Well, enough chatter from me, for now. Sending all of you sunshine and roses today!

Hello Dearest Gypsy-Heart~
Beautiful piece here! It’s so perfect with Spring just around the corner (even though I’m not ready for Winter to be over with yet…I’m SUCH a penguin).
I love the accent colors of blue that you’ve used. In contrast with the pink of the rose…it just POPS!
Again…I love how your work always has great TEXTURE to it. It makes me want to reach out and touch it!
I LOVE the quote you’ve used here too. And just like YOU, I indentify with the thorn part! This quote is so damn true. It’s always by way of the “thorn” that I seem to grow. It may hurt like hell…but the PRICK is worth it!
Tee-hee!
Whenever I look back on challenging and difficult times that I may have had in my life…it’s weird, because I no longer even see/feel the pain that I had experienced. I can only feel the beauty of what the pain manifested for me…the ROSE.
Thank you, through this post…for reminding me of that!
And thank you for sharing your glorious talents, Gypsy-Heart….
Always sharing good energy with you!
Once again, a gorgeous painting and a perfect quote.
Can’t wait!
What a delicious piece, I love how it literally opens up as I scroll down the page to bring the entire work into view.
Tell me, tell me.
I looked for a rose to give my wife for Valentines but the store was sold out. Gave her some tulips instead. I think the tulips are a lot easier to paint. I recently tried painting a white rose. It doesn’t look soft at all so I’m changing it to a conch shell.
I think you should add an aphid.
*Ron*~ Thank you…you always say the nicest things! You have a good eye concerning the texture….I like to “feel” paint!!
Ah yes, the thorns….those challenging and difficult times! You are a rose my friend!!
*Moonbeam*~ So glad you liked them, and I thank you for taking the time to tell me so. Your kindness is most appreciated.
*C*~ I hope to write more in a bit..where does the time go! :O Thank you for letting me know you stopped by.
*SurfaceEarth*~ Ah..I like your description. You never know how your post appears to others. I thank you for telling me. :)
*wrJ*~ I like tulips…though I think it is too hot to grow them here. I am sure your wife loved them! I will have to look up aphids. I don’t think they like my roses (thank goodness). Most of my roses are antique…(or “cemetary roses” as my Grandma calls them). I guess they are sort of wild roses…so they are tough (and maybe not as sweet). That is why I often say.
~~If I were to be a flower…’tis a wild rose I would be. ~gyspy-heart
Thank you for stopping by and leaving me a little note. :)
I looked at this in the morning and I thought it was a pastel, it has that light and airy feeling to it, but I was rushed and didn’t stop to read, just smell it and smile and move on. When I came back to say how lovely of you to leave a rose to brighten the day, I realized it was an oil, Wow! that is an awesome technique you have there!
and thank you so much for the blooms to brighten a gray and windy day!
*Sorrow*~
I am so glad that this brightened your gray and windy day. I will try to send you some sunshine..for it is spring like here. The roses, wild jasmine, black berries, etc are already blooming (so I hope the freezes are done).
I do have some pastels of roses and other flowers, and you’re right it does look very much like a pastel, I never noticed that before you pointed it out. :) It may be the thick paint that makes it appear so. I love texture..in oils, acrylics, etc.
Seems we both like the “feel” of our work…eh? I love the feel of pottery too.
Sending you sunshine and soft breezes!
Gorgeous!!
This just looks like a pastel. It is a very different sort of painting technique. Different is good. I like it.
I came back to take another peek! Your paintings do nice things for my innards. :)
*Kalliope*~~Thank you dear heart, so glad you like it!!!
*nouveaufauves*~~I love being different, so thank You!! I find the observations so interesting…I get the same thing with my acrylic paintings..people think they are oils. Not sure what all of it means. :)
*Moonbeam*~~Ahh..that makes my heart smile!! I am happy that you stopped by to see Roses of Pink again..roses are healing..don’t you think?
Fantastic job on this piece of artwork. Though it is somewhat of an everyday subject, you convey great depth through your technique and add a new dimension. I especially enjoy the actual pedals, they seem almost a sort of vortex.
Keep up the beautiful artwork.
Thanks for the rose. I love the eternal that it represents. Enjoy the weather and enjoy the art that you produce! You are blessed.
*nickjk94*~ Hello thank you for stopping by and taking the time to leave such a kind and inspiring note.
Vortex…I like that! Vortex energy..seen in many places in our universe…eh?
Good energy to you!
*tobeme*~You are most welcome…I love that eternal representation too! Thank you and your kindness is most appreciated. :)
The roses do go well with Spring, don’t they? I think of you when I see my husband outside pruning our old rosebushes in the back.
It’s great that you’re exploring ways to make your work available.
*ybonesy*~ Yes they do…and summer…and fall…and winter here in Florida. :)
Some do bloom pretty much all year…the old timey roses antique ones.
Yikes..pruning I do very little of that!
Thank you the encouragement about making my work available. I am trying to embrace the business side. :O
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a note!
Hiya again, Gypsy-Heart~
Something made me come back here to read your post again…and I am SOOO glad I did!
I think this idea you have about offering your work is so WONDERFUL!
I feel REALLY good about this!! YABBA-DABBA-DO!!!
I’m tickled pink!
tee-hee!
Sharing tons of good energy with you….
*Ron*~ Well, dear heart…I too am so glad you came back by! :)
Thank you so much for your encouragement!!! I have been procrastinating about it…making my own walls! :O
Hopefully I will have it all in place soon…if all goes well, maybe by next week.
Tons of good energy to you too my funny Flinestone friend!! (I know all of those cartoons by heart!!)
That is a splendid piece! I hope you can establish some sort of Gallery, as I’d like to browse some of your other art.
Thank you also for your kind comments – they were very inspiring. I’m glad you enjoy my writing, and I’m even more glad that I am able to enjoy yours – and especially your artwork!
*Ethan*~ How nice of you to stop by. I meant what I said, I do enjoy your writing style!
I thank you for your kind words of encouragement! I do have an art web site with galleries (it is linked on here). Making my work and prints available on here and my web site is a new experience for me. Galleries can’t handle everything, especially from the blog world.
I am looking forward to reading your radical words….”radical” is a word that I am quite fond of!! :)
What a lovely piece of work. Well, art. Laughing. It’s beautiful, and has a mood of its own. Hope you are having a good day.
*Jane*~ Hello how nice of you to stop by and leave a note.
Don’t worry about the “piece of work” comment…it fits me quite well. :)
I am so happy you liked the painting, and I hope you had a lovely day too.
