Golden Morning Sea of Yellow Cerulean Tuscan Sky
all plein air/acrylic on canvas (click on images to enlarge)
Hello Darlings, these are three pieces from plein air painting in Tuscany, in November. Again for my non-artist friends, plein air is a fancy word term for painting outside “in the open air”, on location.
When I posted them before they were not stretched. In fact, they were somewhat wrinkly from being rolled up in my carry on bag. I carried them on all the planes with me. You will probably not be shocked by this, but one of my friends had her paintings stolen out of her checked baggage.
So here they are stretched and framed (frames not in the image). A while back I told you I was thinking about entering some pieces into a juried show in New York. Well, I submitted four pieces (the allowed limit), and these three were juried in. I shipped them out on Friday because the show is next week in Soho. I decided not to fly up for it…too cold up there for me!!
I have wonderful memories of painting these! I always wandered off alone away from everyone. Don’t get me wrong, everyone was great…it was a good group! I was the reason, I just don’t like to talk while painting. Besides the fact that no one wanted to lug all the supplies needed to plein air paint, especially to the places I went! I carried all my painting supplies including jugs of water. Sometimes it was a little cold and windy…in fact, I finally gave up on my last painting when the wind blew my pallet up the rocky hill (I was down in a valley). For an outdoors chick like me it was a most cherished adventure….even down to the quite large wild boar tracks all around me. It was wild boar hunting season there, and gun fire could be heard in the woods around where I was painting. Possibly another reason no one wanted to go with me!! Just remember though:
The chief enemy of creativity is good sense.~Pablo Picasso
Hmmm, maybe there is hope for my creativity…for I seem to lack “good sense” quite often. hee, hee.
I hope all of you are well and happy! Unfortunately it seems I am coming down with another cold. I have not had a cold in years, and this is my second one this winter!! :O So I am ending this now as I simply do not feel like “talking” any more today..which is quite rare for me. :)
May we all pass on a kindness….even if only a needed smile.
Good and creative energy to all of you!

Now I want to paint with you so I can stand around asking you questions while you try to paint.
I like the golden morning piece best. If it sells for a lot, we can use the money to fly back to Tuscany (first class of course). I should go get my innoculations update first thing.
@ Sibyllae~ Thank you Sibyl you are most kind!! It was fun painting them, and I am glad you like them.
Enjoy your sabbatical!
Hugs back to you!
@ wrjones~ Ha, ha. Okay you can talk a little if you LUG all the supplies for us!! You like to go to the crazy places to plein air paint too, so no telling where we could wind up! Maybe in the crossfire of hunters!! :O
I like Golden Morning the most too. :)
So wonderful. You are SO GOOOOD!
Now take care of that cold.
Evening Dearest Gypsy-Heart~
I AM SOOOO DAMN HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!
WOW…Soho!!!! And like the lovely Miss Sibyllae exclaimed…”THESE ARE GOING TO SELL!!!!”
All three are beautiful, my dear…just beautiful. Man…I envision myself walking along the vineyards, sipping some Chianti…and then suddenly stumbling over into the bushes!!!
Your memories of these paintings sounded “special.” I’d be one to wander off by myself too! I need to be silence, so that all my senses can embrace creativity! I can’t stand even watching a movie with someone…yap, yap, yap!@?
Hey…even the wild boar tracks sounded wonderful! For someone who lives in a city…I worship being outdoors within nature. It’s so healing!
Thank you for sharing Mr. Picasso’s wise enlightenment…I totally agree with him!
Sorry to hear about your cold…but with this comment…I’m sending you a LARGE dose of Reiki energy for a speedy recovery.
Here it comes(((((((((Gypsy-Heart))))))))))))
Be well, my friend!
@ Barbara ~ Ahhh…my heart is smiling. Thank you..I am so hoping this will be a “light” cold.
@ Ron ~ Dear heart!! You always say the nicest things!!
I wish you had been there…we would’ve had a grand time, with some good laughs to be sure!
Thank you so much for the Reiki energy…I really think it worked!!! My ear was hurting a little and then I read your comment. Of course, I was receptive to the energy, and guess what I feel better. I am serious!!
So thank you my friend!:)
I love these! Tuscany is one of my dream places. I want to go, but you’ve brought a bit here for me, so thanks! Just beautiful.
Please take care of yourself. No getting sick (Emergen-C is great stuff).
I love your paintings! Excellent.
HOpe you feel better, be well.
I’m good at the LUG business. I once volunteered to carry the backpack of a fellow hiker up to the top of a very steep, very long hill in Arizona on a very hot day. The pack was very heavy and the whole time I thought it contained water. When we got to the top we found I had carried all her paints. I pushed her off.
Feel better and take good care of yourself, this flu is scary bad! I hope you feel better soon. These works are amazing! You so deserved getting in SoHo!!!! I hope you sell them all. :)
@ Moonbeam~ I am so glad I brought a little of Tuscany to you. I hope you will travel there sometime soon. It is a special place. I have a gallery dedicated to it on my art site. :)
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a group of us could meet over there someday? When I went in 2006 there was a writers workshop going on. I really enjoyed being around them!
@tobeme~ As always…you are most kind, and I thank you.</em>
@wrjones~ Hmmm…I don’t blame you. hee, hee.
It is worth all the work don’t you think? god I love being outside, and especially out there painting.
I always carried a little lunch with me so I didn’t have to go until dusk started swallowing up the light!!
@Heather~
Such sweet words of inspiration!! You may be too kind for I don’t know about the “deserved” part. :) Juried shows are so subjective..eh?
I so appreciate your concern. You are right it can be scary. I am feeling much better today..thank goodness!
These are so beautiful and light-filled. ~*~*sending healing thoughts~*~*
@Kalliope~ Thank you and I like your description of
“light filled”
I am feeling much better today so your healing thoughts helped!
?Soho?
I can see you carry your stuff and paint in complete silence (well apart from the gentle breeze and the singing of birds).
I wish I could paint too, it must feel great
Oooh, Italy! One of my favorite places to visit. I must admit my strongest sense of connection is to Florence and Venice.
I love these paintings. They are so…Tuscany.

Love your site and your paintings. And I miss Tuscany and all the little corners of Europe to the point of have my tummy knot up. This painting captures so much of the air and the light and even the smells which I miss so badly. Wonderful.
