Cappuccino Moon /digital ( click on image to enlarge)
Hello Darlings…I hope everyone is well and happy. I just wanted to chat with you a minute or two. So if you like, make yourself a cup of coffee or tea. Oh how I wish I had some cappucino now….like the one in my image! This was the very last photo I took in Florence, Italy while waiting for our plane. Most of you know how much I love the moon, and being the dramatic soul I am I saw this as a farewell gift. I didn’t want to drink it, but you can’t very well save a cappucino. Thank goodness for cameras! I’ve had a couple of cappuccino’s with hearts, but this was my first moon. I love how whimsical she looks, and I plan to paint her. What do you think? Enough about coffee…well, almost do any of you know of a good, reasonably priced, cappuccino machine?
I have been busy getting a couple of pieces ready for a show. One of the pieces I started a while back and posted it on here. It was unfinished and I called it Curb Shave then, but I have changed the name to Whiskers. Sorry about the quality of the photo..it’s a little blurry.

I was running very late today, and I forgot to take a picture of it finished…damn it all! :( I painted this piece from a photo I took of an elderly gentleman shaving on a curb (in Italy). He may have been homeless, though I am not sure. I added ”Whiskers the cat” because I did not want him to be alone in the painting. I changed some things after I took this photo. His foot was too large so I reduced that, and I worked on him and Whiskers in a few places. I have not painted many figures so this is a learning experience for me. :O When I saw this gentleman I knew I would paint him someday. I often wonder about him, and what his story was. Maybe he wasn’t alone maybe he just decided to shave outside on a pretty day, and why not…right? So we’ll just say that was his story, and Whiskers just follows him everywhere. Whiskers came from my imaginary mind…to my canvas world. So they are captured on canvas..together for forever and a day. :)
I submitted my pieces near the end of the deadline so I was able to see all the other work, and oh my goodness!! It is a juried show and there was a lot of submissions and a lot of good work!! So we will see. Maybe my little old gentleman and his cat will get to “hang out” in the gallery for a few weeks. My other submission was a nude charcoal piece. I think I posted her on here a few weeks ago..Dream State.
Note to self: Consider changing your diet…possibly adding in more brain food. Last time you drove to this gallery you lost your keys (see ”lost keys” post to refresh your pitiful memory about that fiasco). This time you remembered your keys, but ran out without your purse!! Which, my dear, meant..no ID, no money, and for god’s sake no lipstick! Hmmm…maybe the gods are trying to tell you something about driving to that gallery??
Well, I will hush for now as it is late. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Next week I plan to organize my nest and do some spring cleaning. :O I will be around to see all of you soon though.
Wishing you good creative energies and cappuccino moons….
Love and light,
~gypsy-he♥rt

Lovely work, and I’ll take one of those moon coffee’s too!
Have a great day!
That cappuccino looks so good….I’m headed to the kitchen now to whip up a coffee creation. :)
I cannot believe it is Friday already. You just reminded me with your happy weekend wishes. Have a beautiful weekend!!!!
~*~*blessings~*~*~*
Lovely! I really enjoy your welcoming style of writing… The description of the Whiskers painting reminds me of a book post I found earlier today… Something about how a memior that has a few ‘untruths’ in it, could be better classified as ‘creative nonfiction’. And when you mentioned that you added the cat into the painting (where, I assume, your snapshot was sans-cat?), I thought again, aha! creative nonfiction!
Thx again for a lovely post. :)
Good Evening Dearest Gypsy-Heart~
I just LOVE your posts!
There’s always something for the EYES, TONGUE and HEART!
The painting is beautiful! I LOVE the look on Whiskers face. And I could FEEL the feelings of the man. Such a “gentle” piece. And I love how you “wondered” about him….because I would have been that same way. I quite often see people, while waiting for a subway and think, “I wonder what their life is?”
And I would really like to take a HUGE sip from that cappuccino, right now. I bet it tasted bellisimo!
Hey…and congrats on “Dream State”!!!! You nudie woman, you!
Thank you for taking us on another beautiful journey through your heart, my friend. It’s always such a pleasure and FUN!!!
Enjoy your weekend…and as always…good energy to you!
The moon-cappuccio is awesome. Too bad it won’t stay — might have fetched a million on eBay (just kidding — and thinking about the Virgin on the grilled cheese sandwich).
The addition of Whiskers really completed the painting, I think. I love how its rubbing up against the man’s back. Perfect touch.
hehehe :) You mean you forget things when you’re rushed, busy, possibly nervous and/or excited and/or stressed?? Shame on you, woman! ;-)
Seriously…who WOULDN’T forget something! LOL
LOVE your Whiskers and your cuppa’ Moonshine and your Dream State! You are so amazingly talented…I think what I like the most is how you use words to paint pictures for us, too! :) xoxox

“Creative nonfiction” Hmmm….I like that! Especially in my canvas world. :)
@ Ron ~ Hello dear heart…thank you for you sweet and inspiring words. I am so glad you liked Whiskers. I will have to do a little more on the piece…I knew it wasn’t finished. :(

Dear Gypsy:
I wanted to say, “you do know how abundantly talented you are, don’t you?”
And before I could type I thought, but to be that abundantly talented is to mark yourself against higher and higher levels, and perhaps strive for a greater sense of accomplishment than your viewers can even begin to comprehend.
So maybe I don’t need to phrase it as a question but tell you, that in my view, your are absolutely talented!
I thank you for broadening our view.
Oh, I love Italy! Florence is wonderful. I’m so glad you got to spend time there. And I love the photo of the cappucino with the moon.
@ SurfaceEarth ~ You are such a jewel my dear…always so encouraging and inspiring to everyone. I could write the same comment for you! :)
Thank you for being!!
@ April ~ I loved Italy too! My trips there were life changing!
So happy you like the cappucino moon…isn’t it simpy magical!! :)
Good creative energies to you!!
oh…you are making me want a REAL cappuccino! i was not able to drink american espresso for about 2 years after i got home from italy. it was so good and sweet.
i too love the lady Luna. how special for you to get that sweet gift right before you left! it had to have been the universe’s italian parting gift. i’ll wish for the same italian blessing while gambling at the venetian later. :*P
by the way, the desert is LOVELY right now. the sun is warming me while i watch the clouds dust the mountains with snow. truly spectacular.
i’m sorry to hear that whiskers didn’t make it into the show. unfortunately, i know all to well what it is like to be rejected in juried shows as NONE of my prints have ever been selected. it’s cool though, i make art for me, not jurors. :*) congrats on the other one making it in!!
((( G.H. ))) Tagged you for the Divine Miss S.E.’s meme!!!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you, Gypsy-Heart !
I love the shave painting! Excellent work. I have spent much time in Italy and this could have just been where the man felt like shaving that day. I love that you saw beauty in his moment.
Love the picture of your cappuchinno!
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself.
@ andomeda ~ Greetings!
Thank you…you are so sweet. I so agree art has to be for oneself not for shows. For me, to do otherwise would be like selling my soul to the devil. hee, hee.
I hope you had good luck at the venetian! :)
@ Grace~ Yikes…I am supposed to be spring cleaning this week, but I will try to do the meme since it is a short one. I usually have to decline because it is all I can do to keep this blog up. :O
Blessings to you sweet lady!
@Annie ~ Same to you and nice to see your words! I hope you enjoy your trip!!
@ tobeme~ Such simple moments are beautiful aren’t they!
I loved Italy…and how they just seem to embrace life and live in the moment.
Thank you my sweet and gentle friend! :)
Hi Gypsy,
art appreciation was never one of my talents, but I’ve always had a soft spot for the old guy, and as for the cat….
By the way, IS there a relationship between the quality of work and the selection? Or is it between the work, the selectors, the expected public response and the anticipated revenue/kudos from the exhibition?
How does all that operate?
@ 94stranger~ How nice to see your words here today! I have missed your presence. :)
I have a soft spot for old guys (and girls) too. I find their faces and so full of character and beauty.
Your cat comment trailed off…I’ll take that to mean you are not a cat person? hee, hee.
As for you question…I am not sure if there is a correct answer because judges and galleries tend to have their own agendas. Judges bring their own style, preferences, and life experiences into it…and how could they not?
I do know you can enter the same piece in differents shows with a different judge and have different results. You may be juried out of one and win a prize in another….same exact piece!! That is why I say it is objective.
Hmmm…maybe I’ll eventually write a post on this subject. I continue to enter shows once in a while for several reasons. I think one of the main reasons is the motivation to create something. You always learn from the experience, so I see it as a good thing. If an artist is competitive (and oh yes, there are quite a few of those) then it can be stressful if you are not juried in a show.
Some years ago I used to take it personal but not anymore. Now I create for myself, and I am my own competition. Which in my humble opinion can be much , much harder on the heart and spirit.
I’m not sure if this long answer is the answer you were seeking. :O I do thank you for stopping by and leaving me a note!!
Good energy to you my sweet new friend.
