As for you question...I am not sure if there is a correct answer because judges and galleries tend to have their own agendas. Judges bring their own style, preferences, and life experiences into it...and how could they not? I do know you can enter the same piece in differents shows with a different judge and have different results. You may be juried out of one and win a prize in another....same exact piece!! That is why I say it is objective. Hmmm...maybe I'll eventually write a post on this subject. I continue to enter shows once in a while for several reasons. I think one of the main reasons is the motivation to create something. You always learn from the experience, so I see it as a good thing. If an artist is competitive (and oh yes, there are quite a few of those) then it can be stressful if you are not juried in a show. Some years ago I used to take it personal but not anymore. Now I create for myself, and I am my own competition. Which in my humble opinion can be much , much harder on the heart and spirit.
