the pathless path
“unfinished” acrylic on canvas (click on image to enlarge)
I see my path,
but
I don’t know where it leads.
Not knowing where I’m going
is what
inspires me to
travel it.
~Rosalia de Castro 1837-1885
Good afternoon dear hearts I hope all is good in your worlds. I only have a few minutes so this will be very brief. I am still on Drayton Island working on the old house, and I am on my lunch break. Thank goodness our part will be finished soon! One reason we did this was to go through the old papers and letters (from the 1800′s forward). So I will have a few things to show you that we found!
I chose this painting and quote because it is how I feel right now. I just finished up a ten year venture, and now I am not sure where I am going next. This time is different, for I have no real plans so it is like a pathless path. Which by the way, is a good thing..at least I think so. So I am
~~letting things unfold as they will in my world~~
with my art, this blog, this renovation project, and MOST importantly spiritually (not religion, mind you), etc. So it remains a mystery, but you know I do love a good mystery! :) Besides I’ve learned to expect such from this gypsy-heart of mine. hee, hee It’s probably best I leave some of my thoughts unsaid right now. :)
About this piece. I didn’t finish it, and it is no more, or let’s just say it’s hidden. I painted over it
~~so it is and it isn’t~~
It is was a painting about how I feel when I walk in the woods. I love walking there when the light and shadows are at the highest intensity. I identify with that, sort of like my life.
Well, this is already longer than intended. I will be traveling south tomorrow. We are going to my Grandmother’s birthday party. I’ve mentioned her often…we are celebrating her 101 birthday tomorrow. So I will ask her if she has any advice for all of us!
Have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be around to read your latest words soon.
I am like an unfinished painting (so are we all..eh?)
Not knowing where I am going, but so inspired..
SO VERY INSPIRED!
Love and peace of heart to all,
~gypsy-he♥rt

Oh, what an image! And now it’s hidden… part of me wants to cry, yet part of me perhaps thinks it’s more precious because of that. It did, indeed, take my breath away at first… maybe because I “recognize” that path? Perhaps.
RPS
Good afternoon Preacherman!
So glad you like the image that “is and isn’t.” hee, hee. I think you are right we tend to appreciate things when they are no more. :)
I am not surprised you recognize the path!!
I will answer your email soon!
I love the pathless image. It’s how I feel when I’m breaking a trail in the woods – full of wonder and surprise at each step of the way. Life is the journey.
So glad you felt a connection Bo.
I must say I am not surprised that’s how you feel when breaking a trail in the woods. We share a love of nature and her gifts.
It is all about the journey isn’t it! :)
Evening Dearest Gypsy-Heart~
GORGEOSO piece!!!
LOVE the colors. Especially since it’s my favorite season….FALL!!
I can just hear those leaves crunching beneath my feet!
AHHHH…the Pathless Path….
~~letting things unfold as they will in my world~~
Me too!
I’ve never been much of a planner. I’ve discovered too many wonderful side paths, by allowing the path to take me where I need to be.
And I’ve learned a lot from the detours too!
WONDERFUL post, dear friend!
So glad to hear that things are going well on the island.
And I can’t WAIT to hear about all those old letters and papers. That sounds SO interesting!
Enjoy your weekend, Miss Gypsy…
Love ya!
I hope you enjoyed your weekend Ron.
Even though I like warm weather I do love fall too. ‘Tis winter that causes me some challenges…hurts my bones!!
I love the detours too!!
We are kindred spirits my friend!
Hello! I just thought I’d drop in and tell you how much I love your work, and your blog! You actually are now my favorite artist. Your art speaks to my soul in ways no other artists’ works have. I’m sure you’ve heard people say these exact words on many occasions, but I just wanted you to know that you have fans everywhere, even up here in little Wasilla, Alaska. =)
May you be blessed in all you do!
~Rachel (http://www.alaskangoddess.blogspot.com/)
Hello to you Rachel! I am so glad you left a note, and I thank you for your kind and inspiring words! I am so glad that you felt a connection…that is what makes me most happy!! :D
Wow…Alaska. I hope to visit there someday. I want to do the train trip through it.
I visited your wonderful site and left you a couple of notes. :) You are very wise and witty for such a young soul!!
Blessings to you too, my dear!
I know that feeling of having art that exists under another painting, it’s like a wistful secret or a metaphor for the subconscious maybe.
light and shadow in the woods is a great metaphor for thinking I’d say!
Daz, my creative friend…I am sure you do! Good description of it.
I think it is a good metaphor…at least for my way of thinking. :)
Love how you described the painting that you painted over, when talking about it being finished: it is and it isn’t. That really struck a chord.
Best of luck with the renovation. It’s hard work but so gratifying.
Thank you bonesy…I think all of us can relate to “it is and it isn’t” in one way or another!
Hard work is gratifying…especially when it is done. :)
I’m a very unfinished painting, and I do love a good mystery too!
Your current project in the old house on the island sounds so interesting. And, Happy Birthday to your grandmother!! AMAZING!
rhea you are most certainly a painting in process, and that’s a good thing in my book!
The old house is interesting..hard work…but interesting, none the less.
Thank for the birthday wish for Grandma Bessie! It is pretty amazing. I may dedicate my next post to her. I need to see how my pictures turned out.
Beautiful artwork. I love the quote too!
love,
Christy
Thank you Christy! Always nice to see your sparkle here. :)
The shapes and shadows of an autumn walk….yes, this is life…and it is known and painted over to become like cellular memory within another painting. Man, you now how auspicious that is?
Hello bg! May I call you that? So glad you left a note. :)
Yes, the autumn walk…sweet, sweet autumn in all her glory! I love the colors of autumn and seem to find myself using that pallet a lot.
I like your description…cellular memory within another painting. ‘Tis true!! Thank you…I hope so!!
I hope you will come again!
Lovely painting! Reminds me of the one I blogged to present You by! AND it looks like a forest view that could have been taken straight from “The wizard of Oz”! :-)
*cyberhugs*
Thank you Anni dear one! It is similar to that one…Beautiful Poison (I think).
Ahh…now you have really made me happy. “A forest view out of the Wizard of Oz” :D
cyberhugs back to you!
Unfinished or not, I love the painting, as I do all of your work. It still makes a strong statement.
I admire the fact that you can express yourself so well on canvas (I can’t even draw a straight line) and have the patience to stop in midstream. I don’t know how to put anything down in the middle. Whenever I wrote something, both professionally or personally, I had to finish it in one sitting. That included 25-page papers for college (and we didn’t even have word processing then), all my columns and my current posts.
I guess that is why I chose newspapers instead of magazines to write for. To write a magazine story could take literally a couple of weeks. I never minded doing my research in segments, but when I wrote it, my mind demanded completion it would f*ck with me until the proverbial cows came home.
Thank you for your words of encouragement…you are so sweet!
Writing is such a gift…it’s like painting with your words!!
Sometimes getting things completed in one sitting is a blessing. Over working things can ruin what was bold and fresh. I know because I’ve done it!
You have many gifts my friend!
I love this! I used to curse because I couldn’t see where the path led. Now I smile knowing that wonderful surprises might be just ahead.
Thank you April.
Bravo for you!! I think a lot of us used to walk the path that way! :O
Gypsy. This is a wonderful painting; I am glad that you saved a virtual copy of it for us to gaze upon and admire. How are you able to paint over your beautiful work? I can’t even delete emails – You must have your reasons – but I’m glad you have copies. What by chance did you paint over this? Just curious. Peace, Light and Love to you and yours. . . CordieB.
Thank you CordieB. It’s not the best image…but digital cameras have made it a lot easier haven’t they!
That’s funny about the emails. You must have thousands of them!! :O
You know I am not sure what I painted over this piece. I would have to think about it. Sometimes if I need a ready to go canvas quickly I will paint over pieces that I wasn’t totally happy with. I admit I have regreted it a few times…but only fleetingly. :) My husband has refused to let me on a few..and he ended up being right. Now I usually don’t tell anyone I am going to paint over..I just do it!
Peace, light, and love to you and yours too!
I came here today after feeling your energy… You bless me Gypsy… I wish to bow before you… I am humbled.
Thank you for this post. It was the first thing I saw when I journeyed to my sanctuary… it is perfect. And the canvas is perfect. May your light always shine
Ah…Enreal..you have no idea what your words mean to so many of us! We are all here for each other!
It makes this blog worthwhile if someone feels a connection here! We are like the lights and shadows in the deep woods…constantly changing and reflecting off one another! :)
Love, LIGHT, and peace of heart to you!
Great post thanks for that image and for the healing energy you give me :)
How lovely to see your words here Kaylee. I’m glad you are home, and that you liked this post.
The energy comes full circle, little one! We give each other strength…eh?
Love, Light, and healing energies to you!
I was pulled here from a past comment you left on my blog and I’m glad I came. That picture gave me a sense of peace as I looked over it. Thank you Gypsy.
JO
I am glad too, Jo…and I am glad that you are feeling better! As I told you..I feel a positive energy there now…bathe in it..drink it in…breathe it in. :)
I am happy that the image of the piece gave you a sense of peace for that would be my wish for you!!
Peace of heart to you!
Peace Gypsy-Heart,
A beautiful and strongly autumnal painting. I love trees and forests and I love the interplay of light and shade in this composition.
Allah! Very beautiful indeed. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
Abdur Rahman
Peace to you Abdur!
Thank you…you are most kind!
Fabulous! Love the painting, (love its colors), love the quote, am fascinated by the story abt how the painting is no more (sad its gone, glad it’s here virtual) and love the idea of your adventure – not knowing how the path will unfold and ready to find out.
Give Gma a big eHug from the bloggoworld! – C
Ahh…thank you C. You made my heart joyful! Yes, the unfolding…a good mystery to be sure!
I did give her a hug and told her about all of you..not sure if she understood. I think she thought I was talking about family..which we all are though! :)
Thank you so much for dropping by my blog! I’m glad you enjoyed it. =) Congrats on becoming Vegetarian! My only advice on that is simply to do your homework and pay attention to what you’re eating, because it is very easy to overlook your protein intake, which will affect your health and your energy. But you probably knew that! =)
I hope you have a great day, and a wonderful week!
Love and Light,
~Rachel
I did enjoy it Rachel as I said you are very quite wise for such a young soul!
Thank you for the advice on the vegetarian diet. I am trying to be very aware of protein intake..so far so good!
Love and Light to you too!
Good Monday afternoon Island 11/Gypsy-Heart :)
WHAT A WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE IN YOUR LIFE PSYCHOLOGICALLY – THAT TYPE OF CROSSROADS IN A JOURNEY, THE NEWNESS OF IT ALL, THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE CHOICES THAT WILL SHAPE A NEW PATH ARE WONDERFUL !
Working on the old house must be fun in the sense that you are transforming it, giving it love and new life with your efforts.
I loved that autumn colored picture too. Just made me want to walk in those woods and be blissed out by the light and shadows and beauty of nature…
Happy Birthday to your Grandmother !
Thank you Annie! Yes it is a good place to be.
Working on the old house is fun..but hard work too. I think the best part will be when it is done. :)
I’m glad you liked the piece…before we know it fall will return and we can walk in such places!
My Grandmother appreciated all the birthday wishes..thank you!
You are always such an enigma; love the warm glow of this painting.
Hmmm…enigma..I think I like that! :)
Glad you liked the warm glow!
:) I’m right there with you, Ms. G. Letting things simply unfold and greeting each day as if it were Christmas Morning…lots of pretty “surprises” to open up.
Hugs…
I thought you were amazing Grace, and I so agree lots of pretty surprises opening up!!
Hugs back…
I love the quote and I admire and love your courage as you allow the journey to unfold before you!
Thank you tobeme..I assure you the feelings are mutual!
Beautiful painting. I am always amazed by the light in your paintings…it is so uniquely lucid and vivid that it takes me right INTO the painting. Such hope and inspiration lighting up the path!
Thank you Kalliope dear…I am happy that you felt a connection!
You are always a light!
yep we do ;)
Love seeing your energy here Kaylee dear heart!
I love the colors in this painting. So warm and welcoming.
Have a great summer!
Thank you Susie…warm and welcoming is a good thing!
I hope you have a great summer too!
A very beautiful painting for a very taoist thought. Please remember to tell what your grandmother says.
Hello Paul and thank you! Yes…Taoist thought indeed!!
I did ask her, and I plan to include her advice in my post. :)
Warm!
Yes it is my friend..and I know you like warm! :)
Life with the highest intensity…
Oh yes, i can so see this!
It is the woods just before the zenith of the sun fades beyond the mountains…
heart felt sigh.
~smiles~
How beautiful Sorrow…thank you!
~smiles to you~
Your giclee print After the Rain 1 that I purchased looks wonderful. My friend Stephanie at Stephanie’s Framing created a frame and matting combination that enhanced the artwork for a perfect display. This piece from your Little Pictures gallery was a gift to my wife and she wants more! The Certificate of Authenticity and your personal note that accompanied the artwork made this a very special gift. I look forward to selecting the next piece of artwork of yours.
Hello Mr Tommy! I am so happy that your wife liked it!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a note here and for your kind and inspiring words!
I love this painting. My works are often watercolours so I don’t really get to paint over them but I quite often paint on the other side of them.
I’m so very behind in reading right now but really enjoy coming here. Thanks for stopping by at my place.
:)
Hello delilahgirl! So glad you liked it!
Ah yes, water colour. I have some painted on the other side too! :)
I will be back to visit your site soon! :)
You sound so happy these days….. with your words and images. Is it the time of year? Or a lot of things coming together?
Hmmm….I guess it is both Sandra. :) I have always found happiness though…no matter what is going on. I stumble once in a while…but that only makes getting back up all the sweeter…eh?
That would be “coming”. I didn’t mean to submit it yet. I type too fast and don’t re-read. I wanted to add that I am trying to conceptualize a new series of paintings. You seem to always have a unified concept with your creative outpouring. How do you stay so together?
I already changed it…I know what you mean about typing to fast. :O
I thank you for the compliment, but I don’t feel so together!
In fact, I usually feel quite the opposite. hee,hee I sort of just let it all unfold..which I know probably sounds cheesy, but it is true. I do think working on a series helps one stay focused and on track. Looking forward to seeing your new series!
I will be over to your place in a bit. :)
