Roses and glass..of old

The rose speaks of love silently,
in a language known only to the heart.
~Author Unknown
Hello Dear Hearts…Isn’t this the most beautiful quote ever!! If anyone knows the author please share it with me.
I hope your week was a pleasant one! As usual, mine was a busy one. I delivered the three pieces for the upcoming show at the Women’s Center, and I crossed some other things off the list too. Guess what though, I found a couple of hours to paint! Thus, Roses and Glass..of old. Needless to say, there is a story behind the painting, but I’ll try to keep it short. :)
It all started with a trip to Ace Hardware to buy a Yankee Candle for a friend. Somehow I found myself in the garden area..what a divine place!! Of course, it was the antique roses that beckoned me over, and they were on sale, marked way down! I made the mistake of leaning down close to smell just one remaining rose (ahh…instant therapy), and I can’t tell you what happened beyond that. I only know…
my heart was drunk with love
bewitched beyond control!
So one candle, a bamboo turtle wind chime (that’s another story), and SIX ANTIQUE ROSE bushes later I drove away.
Maybe the young lady that helped me is partially to blame…she was adorned with moon jewelry and a very interesting moon tattoo on her leg. I felt an instant connection, because I am madly in love with the moon too! She convinced me that the roses were a deal (and they really were!). Oh, and did I mention our most interesting spiritual conversation…you know I am very open minded he♥rted concerning all spiritual things.
I know, I know..I said no long ramblings today, so I am fast forwarding. I had to cut the roses back because they were in desperate need of some loving care. I felt bad about that, but at least they weren’t blooming so only a few flowers remained on the bushes. That night I put the cut roses in some tiny old bottles from the Drayton Island house and painted (ahh..instant meditation!!)! The large one is not from my adopted bushes..the young lady cut if off another one in the garden area. :O So naturally, I couldn’t leave it behind discarded at Ace Hardware.
Alas, the magic will continue, because the petals will eventually go into potpourri. Besides they are now captured on canvas, and who knows where that energy will go…right?
To think it all started with a candle gift for a friend, and ended up with roses in my garden…how very selfish of me. hee, hee. Yet, I can’t help myself if roses speak to me…can I? :) For you know….
If I were to be a flower..
`tis a wild rose, I would be!

Well, I’ve “chatted” too much already. I hope you are all enjoying summer. Do take a minute or two to smell the roses. :)
Sending you energies of love and light…
in a language known only to the he♥rt.

Oh I love that post!!!!!!! I need some loving right now :)
Thank you Kaylee..so glad you like it.
I am so sorry you are feeling bad again. I left you a note on your post. Do as the doctors and nurses tell you…rest, rest, rest!
The candle is burning as I type this to you…I hope you can feel the healing energies coming your way dear one!
You keep fighting and we’ll keep sending you the love…deal?
Love and light to you,
~gypsy-heart
Good Evening Dearest Gypsy-Heart!
Yes in deed…the quote you placed at the beginning of this post is BEAUTIFUL!
(I read it like 4 times!)
And the piece itself is exquisite! What a magical story of how this painting came to be!
Aren’t roses such a “special” flower?
Maybe that’s WHY they’re so often given to someone when expressing LOVE.
My favorite color rose is yellow. I just love them. They look happy!
oooh…and I think it’s so cool that you use the roses to make potpourri. Me too! This way they can be enjoyed forever and ever!
As always, dear Gypsy…every time I come by to visit you, I feel blessed!
Thank you for that!
Have a great weekend!
Love ya!
Thank you Ron I found your words inspiring and comforting tonight!
I do think roses are special. Yellow roses are beautiful..that is my daughter’s favorite color. I am not sure which is my favorite color…I guess I like the white ones that are not really white..they have other colors on them..anything from touches of yellow to burgundy. I really do love all of them!
I count you among my most endearing cyber blessings!
Love ya too!
Beautiful painting, & a beautiful quote:-)
My roses are all a little rain soaked right now, but still gorgeous nonetheless!
Love & Blessings to you.
Hello Ace!! Thank you how nice to find your lovely note!
So you are a rose lover too…eh? I have not planted mine yet, but they are already looking good. They already have new growth. :) It is raining here now..and has been a lot, but we need it.
I can’t decide where to plant them..I keep changing my mind. :O
I loved your photos on your site. Beautiful photographs there. I am torn about signing up for flickr. I see we have something other than roses in common…you have Daisy..I have Ringo. :)
Love and blessings to you too!
Lovely painting.
Why thank you wrj…I am honored! :)
Suz, my last post suggested that every person has a flower that embodies them, just as we have totem animals. Think of it as totem flowers. Yet, after I wrote that statement, I couldn’t figure out what my flower is.
But what a delight to see that you know what your flower is. The rose. So ancient and solid and majestic. Fragrant, a beautiful one at that. Beauty. Longevity. Roses bloom the whole summer, well into fall. Persistence. Those are the things I think of when I think of the rose.
I wish I knew more about them. We have many in our yard. Former owners were lovers, and now I am, too. I will sit with the question, what flower am I, a bit longer. I wish it were so clear.
How interesting about your post. I read it and throughly enjoyed it!
I like how you see the rose! :) Maybe you are just an entire garden..and why not? I am drawn to other flowers too (as I noted on your post), but roses are at the top of my list. Lilies, sunflowers, and zinnias are among my favorites, and I have grown to love wild wisteria too. I love how it spreads and grows 100+ feet up in the pines…sending a mysterious erotic fragrance throughout the woods! For a while I didn’t know from where the aroma came. :)
I have several books about the meaning of flowers..you may want to read one…your flower will reveal itself to you. Of course, I think it can change….though roses have always been among my most favorite. For some reason I have never liked hibiscus …who can figure?
Good Sunday evening to you, Gypsy Heart/Island.
Roses are enchanting. It’s hard NOT to buy them, they are just so inviting with their colors and soft petals and sharp thorns and glossy green leaves and the scent and…. :)
You painted a wonderful picture, too !
Thank you Annie..I agree it is hard NOT to buy them.
I am happy you liked the piece. :)
The painting is fabulous!!!
You must truly be an antique rose deep deep down.
Ahh…thank you Bo!! I think I must be. hee, hee. I have been told I am an old soul..maybe I am an old rose too. :)
I love the warm yellows and the way you offset the darkness with the blue….and then those every so delicate little pink buds….just lovely. :*
Thank you Anjolie…so glad you like it! You know how I feel about your work! :)
I feel your energies and receive them with an open heart… you manage to turn running errands into a spiritual journey of the soul… always ;)

Thank you dearest Enreal you are always an inspiration!! I’ve often said you are not of this world!!
A surprise coming…I am most curious! hee, hee.
Peace to you too my friend!
What a beautiful painting of such beautiful roses! I could feel your spiritual awareness all through this errand – and still feel it as I gaze at your creation. Thanks for sharing your creativity and your spirit with us. Peace, Light and Love, CordieB.

I love that you went out for a candle and returned with roses. nice!! Lovely painting.
Thank you Rhea…so glad you like the painting.
Ah yes..out for one candle return with six rose bushes. hee, hee Quite typical for me. :)
LOVE IT! Not selfish AT ALL – because you energized your soul then came to share it all with us here! Your talents, your energy, your soul, your HEART. I’m going to just take a moment and conjure up this delicious rose scent as I think upon your quotes and gaze upon these images…
Thank you C, and you are right..I did energize my soul!
I hope you conjured up that delicious rose sent! :)
GODDESS this is GORGEOUS!!!!!
The colors are incredible. I especially like the midnight hues spilling over into yellow….
Thank you Kalliope dear..you are always so inspiring!
Goddess? Well, maybe one in process. hee, hee.
Your spirit is that of a rose, ever lasting, ever renewing. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art and your story.
Ah, thank you Mark you are most kind.
Your posts have touched my heart many times with your wise words!!
I love your painting and your use of color. At first glance, I thought it was a painting from another time. It’s very beautiful…. and then, when I read you bought antique roses, I was thinking, “which one, which one??”
I am a nut for old and english roses and, although they are all blown right now with the heat, I still adore them. They are in potpourri now and I still enjoy their fragrance. I have a few photos of my roses and even my potpourri on my blog, if you want to wander by sometime. I just wish I could put that fragrance on there!
Enjoy!
Hello Linda thank you for your very kind note.
“a painting from another time”…as an old soul I like that! :)
Seems we share a love of roses..eh? I will be by to visit your blog in a bit!
Beautiful story, and it led to such a beautiful painting! I don’t think it was selfish at all– doing something nice for a friend let to instant excellent karma for you!
Thank you MB and how nice to find your words! I am so glad your energy is restoring, and you are able to visit blogs again. “Excellent karma” can be a good thing..eh?
Love the painting, it is sweet and fragrant!
Love the back story, and i had a good giggle cause i swear Ace is the PLACE! My favorite hardware to listen to the overalls chat, and hear some of the funniest things!
Thinking of you…wishing you light and love!
Thank you Sorrow..makes my heart happy that you like the piece.
Yes, the hardware store is a wonderful place. When I was a little girl I used to love going there with my Father, and I still do. Always interesting there..the people and the products!
Wishing you light and love too!
How funny it is that this post took me 12 years back to the Ace Hardware in Ponte Vedra Beach – one of my favorite places in the entire Jacksonville area!
Wish some of the roses we had there would have looked as well!
I knew we had some connections…who would have guessed it would be Ace Hardware. ha,ha.
I hope you have beautiful roses where you are now!
Thats a deal :)
Good then Kaylee!
I have been checking by to see if you are feeling like blogging again. I am glad you are resting and doing what the doctors and nurses are telling you.
Love, light, and healing energies to you dear one!
Amazing painting. Roses. Huh. Long ago times. Thanks. Linda
Thank you Linda!
Somehow I am not surprised of roses and long ago times for you. To me, roses are not of this world!
Oh, my heavens! I’d have walked out with the rose bushes too! I love the painting. And I’m smiling about the moon symbols. What a magical day it sounds like you had!
Thank you April you made my heart smile!
Candles, roses, and the moon..how could it not be a magical day..right? :)
Lovely roses!!! So when do I get to see some thistles? ;-)
Dear Gypsy, today I’m blogging part of my heritage when it comes to this love I feel towards nature. The day before yesterday I went out to the archipelago surrounding the region where I grew up – and the city where I was born! – together with my dear friend Christian, and I would just love to show You (and Your cyber companions!) what the coastline looks like here up north in Finland.
If You feel like it, c’mon over! :-)

Thank you Anni. Thistles are coming soon! I am searching through my photographs now.
I am looking forward to seeing your world! I will be over soon!
What a wonderful post. Thank you!
I so relate to your feeling of being “bewitched beyond control” by those roses. I experienced that too in my garden this year. Fragrant roses open the heart up. Truly, you couldn’t but buy them :-)
They are already inspiring your (beautiful painting!) and bringing you their gifts, which are manifold. I enjoy them in the garden and love bringing some cut ones into the house. Once they fade, I collect the petals for potpourri (although some are as we speak being turned into an ancient recipe rose incense by a friend :-) Some petals are “pasted” into my journal. Some included in collages. I might even make some rose water soon :-)
Have a blessed Sunday!
Hello Chantal! Thank you very much for your very kind and inspiring words!
Seems we do share a love of roses! I love how you allow the rose energies to go in so many different directions! :)
I’ll be over to see you soon!
I hope you are having a blessed Sunday too!
