Wild Roses in Green Glass
24″ X 32″ acrylic/canvas…click twice, to touch the petals :)
Every artist dips his brush in his own soul,
and paints his own nature into the picture.
~Henry Ward Beecher
Well, Monday has rolled around again. I hope our time apart was a pleasant one for you. All is good in my world.
This piece is another little antique bottle with antique roses. If you double click you will be able to see the petals that are painted impasto (thick paint) and the lines I scratched back to the canvas for the leaves and stems. I love painting thick and thin, dark and light..just like life..eh? I hope you are not tired of roses for as I have told you, I can’t help myself. I’ll tell you why this quote in a minute, because it involves you too!
Tonight I will be working on updating my bio for something that is coming up in October. For the sake of time now, I’ll just tell you it involves me talking about my work and doing a presentation (I hope to involve the guests too). YIKES!! October is the month for “Art Beyond Sight” and this will be part of the program for the Bureau of Braille and Talking Book LIbrary Services through the Department of Education for the State of Florida. Hmmm….do you suppose The Journey piece has something to do with this too?
I am making a confession to you…I am a little nervous..okay, okay..a LOT nervous about it! What would you expect from a hermit artist anyway…right? :O So please keep me in mind while I am trying to prepare for this, and when the time arrives may I request some of your good energies? There is a little more to this than I realized when I accepted the invitation. :O All is good though..I can handle it, and I know I will be inspired from the whole experience. When I know more about the details I’ll tell you…promise.
Now about this beautiful quote…it applies to all creative endeavors not just painting! All of you paint with your words, music, photography, etc. That is why I chose it for this painting..it is about all of you, not just painters.
Last but certainly not least!! This is an anniversary for gypsy-he♥rt, I am. I started this blog a year ago on July 30th, and I had no idea where it would go..if anywhere at all. So I want to share my first somewhat pitiful post with you. I still remember when I hit publish the first time.. it was scary. Here’s the actual post:
“This is like another world to me. I may just be writing to myself…but I tend to dwell in my own world anyway so that will be okay too.
I would like to post some pictures, but I do not understand how to do it. I think I need blogging for dummies or something because I do not find this easy to manange. Here is my web site that I recently managed to put together…quite a challenge for me. http://susanmorrisonsims.com/index.html If anyone is out there and sees this I would love to know it.“ ~July 30, 2007 (my first blog post)
I thought you might get a little chuckle out of it. Apparently I didn’t know how to use spell check either..did you notice “manage”? Of course, I still have to watch myself about grammar and spelling. Some things don’t change, do they? Some of you have stuck it out with me from the very beginning..and you may remember this was before I changed the theme and the blog name from I’d Rather Be Painting, and I signed everything Suz..don’t even ask me where that came from. It wasn’t too long before I decided to simply be myself so gypsy-he♥rt was born.
So as my Grandmother would say “i put the lantern out”, and waited to see what would happen. I couldn’t be more pleased with what has happened, because all of you came into my life..ignoring my “hermit” proclamations. I mean I guess it’s somewhat silly to say you are a hermit while publishing a blog for god’s sake!! hee, hee (105 posts so far). Actually, I think this has been a good fit for my hermit self. :) So I am taking this time to thank ALL of you..those I have known for a year now and those that I am just getting to know. Please know You are all an inspiration to me, and I am so happy that all of you are out there!
So I’m toasting you with my red wine tonight..here’s to another year of
…dipping into our own souls
painting our own natures into the pictures, the music,
and the words!
Love, Light, and Peace of Heart to All of You,
~gypsy-he♥rt
Ps I will try to get around to everyone soon. Hopefully, I will have this short bio finished in no time!

I love this painting. The green glass brings me right in for some reason.
Congrats on your one year anniversary and for the opportunity you have coming up! Can’t wait to hear more about it.
Thank you very much Rhea! :)
Happy Anniversary !!! The quote is true, and a wonderful insight, both into art – and blogging, which in its own way is also an art…
I am glad you put your lantern out, Gypsy-Heart, and get such pleasure out of seeing your paintings here…
And many many bountiful and wonderful energies sent your way for the presentation in October :)
Thank you Annie.
You’re right blogging is an art, and I am grateful for the energies!
I love how you paint glass – especially green glass.
And happy anniversary – I for one am glad you shrugged your hermit tendencies a bit to share with all of us. I love visiting with you.
Thank you Bo! For some reason, I am drawn to glass and green glass is among my favorite.
I love visiting with you too! :)
Good Evening Dearest Gypsy-Heart~
What a WONDERFUL post!
I could feel all the love in that beautiful gypsy heart of yours!
OMG…and congratulations on your one year anniversary!!!
YAHOOO! YEPEEEE!
God, I remember coming here for the first time and visiting you. I think it was back in February. And I just knew we were kindred souls. Plus the fact, that we both had Florida in our lives!
Beautiful piece too!
I don’t know HOW the hell you always get that “lighting effect” in your pieces, but I love it. And the white of the roses just POPS off the painting.
ooooh….ooooh…I’m so excited for you about this presentation your going to do in October. Listen, for as much as I do it…I’ll be honest with you too…I get VERY nervous every single time I have to stand up in front of people and talk. But once you start talking, something will just take over, and you’ll just FLY….trust me.
I’m so glad that you decided to start this blog….it’s such a wonderful place of healing for all of us!
So thank YOU, dear lady!
And listen, I’m all out of wine tonight, but tomorrow night I’ll be toasting you!
Love ya!
Thank you Ron dear heart!
Yes, I knew we were kindred spirits from the beginning too!!
Glad you like the piece. ‘Tis just the contrast of dark and light. It has always fascinated me..in glass, in sky, in woods, in water, in petals, etc. :)
Thank you for the advice. I used to to talk in front of people a lot in my past life..and I was always nervous..but like you said once I got into it I was okay. This should be even better because I get to speak about art and my work..so it will be from the heart!!
I am glad I started the blog too…”meeting” all of you has been such a positive experience!
I could feel your toast and I thank you my good friend!!
Love ya too!
Happppy anniversary and I think i need to talk to you look at my last post LOL!
Thank you Kaylee…I did look at your last post!
I will be by again in a bit to check on you. :)
Wow you are talented. I really like it. I am sure it must have taken a long time to get this done.
Shamelle
Hello Shamelle! Thank you visiting and taking the time to leave such a kind and inspiring note. :)
Glass does not take too long to paint…in fact, it needs to be painted quickly or you will over do it..which I have done. :(
I love this painting. I thought it was a photo, at first.. silly me..*laughs* happy anniversary!
Ah..thank you Rachel dear…you made my heart smile!!
I find that writing bios is one of the most awful things to have to do….hahaha! My best trick is to pretend that I am someone else writing about me…that helps a lot.
Happy Anniversary!
It’s okay to not be a total hermit…”No man is an island” and all that good stuff. I used to hide out in my studio for days at a time but I’d still creep out to the store just to see if I could buy a bottle of wine without talking to anyone…:D
Good advice about the bio!
Thank you…it’s hard to believe a year has passed.
I agree…total hermit is not good. I guess I would call myself a part time hermit. :D
Happy BLogoversay, GypsyHeart :) The world is a better place because you are writing in it.
Who WOULDN”T be a bit nervous? LOL YOU GO GIRL! I’m positive you’ll be a smash.
WILD ROSES sure has been a theme, cropping up for me lately. Guess I’ll need to look into that a bit more (from a symbollic stand point).
In the meantime, your painting is extraordinarily beautiful….
NAMASTE
Thank you dear Grace…you are too kind!!
Do look up wild roses..I think you will find it quite interesting.
NAMASTE’ to you too!
Happy anniversary, Suz. I loved seeing your first post. And do you know, “manage” and its derivatives are hard words to spell. I see emails all the time with the word “mangers” instead of managers. Makes me chuckle.
The photo is beautiful. Not sick at all of roses. I like hearing the technical parts, too, about the thick paint for the petals and the scratching in for leaves and stem. Cool.
Thank you yb! You made me laugh about the “mangers”
So glad you are not sick of roses here..because I am sure it will not be the last here. hee, hee
Yes, thick paint and scratches …I tend to do that. I love the idea of both. :)
Thank you for your kind words and for leaving a comment on Enhance Life. Since you are new to blogging one site I can suggest is http://www.ProBlogger.net .
Most the blogging things I learned form that blog.
Regards
Shamelle
You are most welcome Shamelle. I enjoyed my visit there. I looked up the site you recommended and it is very helpful. :)
Gypsy Heart: Happy one year blogging anniversary!! I am glad to hear that blogging fits in with your hermit existence; I like your style, and that your art is included in it. You have a gift for it, and I can tell it comes from the soul, much like words do for many of us here………. my life has changed since I began blogging, and I have come to realize how connected we all are……. Peace! Vanessa
Hello Vanessa and thank you for your sweet words of encouragement!
Blogging can be life changing, and I do agree we are all connected!!
Peace to you too!
Happy bloggaversary! Wow– it seems that there are several of us that started our blogs within days of each other. It’s amazing to read that first post of yours, and to see how far your little space here has grown and changed.
Here’s to many more years of beautiful words and pictures. I’m so glad I met you.
Thank you MB…that is interesting about our anniversary dates! Congrats to you too!
Yes, my first little post was so pitiful..eh? :)
I’m so glad I met you too, my dear!
I was going to say lovely little green bottle but it seems to be quite large. Once that flower dies let’s fill it with wine for a toast to dead flowers.
Thank you wrj…’tis a little green bottle about 3 inches high, but since the canvas is my world it can be larger than life! ! I love to paint little things like that zooming in on them. :)
I like your idea of the wine toast to dead flowers..only we need to do so in a larger glass…eh?

Love, joy, and peace to you too!
Congrats on being asked to present. You should be very proud of your self. All will fall into place. Trust in your self and the energy you desire will manifest itself. Congratulations on the anniversary of your blog. You have done a wonderful job with it and brought much joy to many. Love the roses.
Thank you Mark. That’s good advice to trust and let the energy manifest itself. I told them I will speak from the heart..they said that is what they want. :)
Thank you again for your kind and inspiring words about the blog and the roses!

As for your nervousness… rest assured my friend… I send out all the energies I can muster… you will be blessed!
Wow! I think this is my favorite picture yet! And I love the quote. It applies to writers as well, of course. Good luck with this new step for you. I know you’ll do great and afterwards it will mean your comfort zone has expanded yet again.
