Island Creature, Owl (acrylic on paper)
This is a holiday card that i sent out from my husband and me. The cards were printed from a fun little acrylic painting that I did. i wanted to send it out to all of you too. It has one of the island creatures on it. One of the first we were to meet there…the Owl.
A few years before we moved the old house over by barge we camped there in a little camper. It was our very first time to stay the night, and you know how it is in a new environment, you are somewhat restless when night falls. So we decided to explore a little with our flash light because is was pitch dark. We heard many sounds, but one sound we knew to be that of an owl, so we followed the sound up into the trees high over our heads.
The light finally connected with the amazing voice that had been screeching into the darkness as if calling to us. The light revealed a very large and most beautiful owl, and he/she was leaning over peering down at us with the same curiosity. That very moment confirmed what i already knew in my heart…i was finally home…where i was meant to be.
i knew it weeks before when i first stepped out of the boat onto the land. The for sale sign was barely visable from beyond the shore, as if hidden until the time was right. i have lived in many, many places, especially during childhood..a nomad (not by choice then), but a nomad in body and spirit, only now by choice. For ’tis a gypsy heart, i am (i have been thinking of changing the name of this blog…maybe this is the name??).
Well, I got off subject …which i tend to do in real life too sorry. :) Anyway the owls continue to be among my favorite there. i know what you are thinking… i say that about all of them. i don’t deny it, for i love them all!
To me that is what this time of year is all about…..it’s all about love. i know some feel alone and depressed during the holidays. i can understand that especially when much of what is presented by the media is the stereotype (spin) of the perfect family. That leads me to the real reason i wanted to post this message.
Family is however you define it…it can even be your precious pets or just the wild creatures that share your world. Hopefully we will embrace what i think the real message is for us each and every day..not just on a commercialized holiday. It is that we are all family from the same source. Some of us haven’t remembered that yet…but eventually we all will, for it is
~~~hidden within our hearts…until the time is right~~~
Well, that’s enough of my chatter today. Just know that…
Today and everyday, from my circle and beyond…
I wish you love & light,
